One of my new year’s resolutions is to get more organized – especially in ways that will make my life more simple. I must admit, having a family with 4 kids means things can get quite chaotic in our home!

The daily chores needed to maintain some sense of order are daunting in and of themselves….1 load of laundry washed, dried, and folded, full dishwasher load + pots and pans, make 5 beds, clean the bathroom, sweep the kitchen floor, make 6 lunches, cook dinner, and yet the list goes on! Since I also work full time, I sometimes struggle to find the energy to get it all done.

I think I’m already fairly well organized, but want to get SUPER organized in the year to come. Less worry, headaches, and stress, I hope!

Some things I already do, but want to improve on:

– Pre-make lunches for the week – I have often done this in the past. It’s a lifesaver on busy school mornings. I need to keep it up.

– Chore Charts – I’ve kept chore charts for myself AND my kids for years and years. Sometimes, though, they fall to the side. They are such a simple tool, and really work to motivate the kids, and even me. I often reward the kids with a movie night, or even small payments ($1 and under) for completed work.

Some things I’ve already started for the new year:

– Once a month cooking

– Household Notebook

I’m a list person. If I don’t write it down, I won’t remember it. The website organizedhome.com is a great resource for printable pages. I made my own cover pages and made a section for planning (calendars, to do lists), work, school, budget, etc. As paper comes in, it goes into the notebook. When I’m done with the paper, it goes into long term filing or the garbage.

I have plans to incorporate a few more new techniques, which I will detail in an upcoming post!
