Some of you may remember this antique wagon from one of my fall posts.

I absolutely love it, and try to use it in my outdoor decorating each season. I also enjoy outdoor flower gardening, and could not wait to put the wagon to use this summer!

I bought a couple of galvanized buckets for a few dollars each. Then my son and I had a fun outing together picking out some bedding plants.

All it took was some quick transplanting and plunking the pots in the wagon and it was done. Simple and pretty!

I love to browse online and through magazines for inspiration….here are some recent ideas that caught my eye.

Owl Pillow

I kinda have a thing for owls. As I post my ideas, I’m sure that will become obvious!

I wanted to make my girls something that was a combination of a stuffy toy and a pillow and I wanted to add some pops of bright colour to their bedrooms. When picking a shape, I chose an owl. (Although I bought the fabric for this project, this would be a great excuse to use up biggish left overs from other pieces.) I free hand drew the outline of an owl on a big piece of paper, and then traced the shape onto the pieces of fabric for the front and back of the owl. I did the same thing for the two wings, and then used a zig zag stitch to attach them to the owl’s front side. I used left over scraps of fabric for the eyes and the beak. After stitching it all together, I stuffed it with polyester filling and closed it up. It was quick and easy! My daughter absolutely loves this and sleeps with it every night! This project was a success!

On a side note, I wasn’t totally happy with the shape of the first attempt, and would tweak it a bit for future versions! I saw this little guy in a store and will try something close to this shape next time.

Simple Fall Decorating

Simple Fall Decorating.

One project for today completed! My yard is looking a little bare…I thought I would try a fall arrangement. Mainly some branches, leaves, moss, and some other greenery.

I used a pot I had left over from this summer’s flowers. I started by filling the bottom of the pot with some rocks to weigh it down. I went on a little scavenger hunt walk (this would have been fun to do with my kids!) and gathered up my supplies. I picked up some fallen birch branches, and snipped some colorful leaves. I arranged these items in the container, using the rocks to hold it all in place. I cut out some moss from the ground and placed it on top of the rocks. I cut some flowers from my yard and stuck them into the moss. It worked the same way florists foam would. I cut some extra greenery from our flower beds and placed it throughout the arrangement.

This cost me nothing and got me outside. I think it turned out pretty well!

What a find! We went out to my boyfriend’s parents’ house for a birthday celebration and spotted this old wagon on their yard. When I asked my boyfriend about it, he told me a customer had given it to him awhile ago. The kids had been playing with it and he had been considering throwing it away. I asked if we could bring it home and here it is…..I’m planning on using it as the centerpiece for my outdoor fall decorating! I’m wondering if I should re-paint it….
