Spring at the Lake

“So lovely was the loneliness
Of a wild lake, with black rock bound,
And the tall pines that towered around”

Excerpt from The Lake
– Edgar Allan Poe

My boyfriend and I got an amazing offer last week…..four wooden Adirondack chairs and table in exchange for a case of beer!

The chairs had badly peeling paint, and one chair had one rotten slat, but other than that, were in good condition.

My boyfriend pressure washed them before I even saw them, and then did some sanding before I had a chance to get any before pictures. Here’s what they looked like after being pressure washed and somewhat sanded:

It took me a few days to decide what colour to paint them, but I finally settled on…..white. Seems boring, I know. However, after much self debating, I thought white would look the best against our dark log siding. The trim on the house and the garage door are white. And, white always makes things look fresh and new.

Turns out, it was a smart choice, because the only suitable paint our small local hardware store had in stock was farm paint for barns and fences – in white.

After some finer sanding and cleaning, we applied a first coat of the white paint.

I think they look great so far! This paint takes quite awhile to dry, and the skies were threatening rain, so we’ll need to wait until another day to apply the second coat. Maybe next weekend.

In the meantime, I have a frugal yet stylish idea for cushions. Once the painting is complete, and the cushions made, I will be sure to post a shot of the finished product!
